I went out to Willow Springs earlier this year with some friends to watch the Moto Classica. I felt like I was in 3 or 4 scenes from "On Any Sunday", it was amazing. I totally forgot about these photos, until today, when I was going through my hard drives.

Garvan Cavanagh// Portraits of Friends// Set 7
Garvan is one of a kind. He's from Delaware or Rhode Island, East Coast something. He works as a moped messenger, but usually keeps it looked up on The Alley and walks to all the high rises in Century City. He loves hip hop and reggae, especially R. Kelly and old Vanilla Ice. I remember the first time I met him, he had a picture of Slick Rick on his Moped Army profile, but I didn't realize it was Slick Rick. I thought Garv was black and wore an eye patch. So when I finally met him I was (and still am) disappointed that he wasn't a rad black dude with an glittery eye patch. Garv also loves his mother very much. I like Garo the Magnificent.

Brendan Mullen. 1949-2009
I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Brendan Mullen 2 years ago at the 30th anniversary of The Masque punk rock club and book release party. I found out today that he passed away on Monday.
He basically started the punk scene in LA in the '70's by giving bands like X, The Germs, The Dickies, and many more a venue to play at. As well as continuing on after The Masque, by promoting bands throughout LA and writing a few books. The LA Times wrote a nice obituary for him. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
